(04.02.08) I can't really expect to do 2 1/2 years worth of updates in a few sentences, can I?  I'll try, but not necessarily in order...  Moved back to Pittsburgh two years ago.   Re-established Keystone Sales & Auctions...Founded Knothead Entertainment... Re-launched as 2110 Entertainment... New girlfriend (Tracy)... new cat (Colby)... Worked at KDKA for a year... started an internet radio show (Sound Spectrum Radio)... Bought a house...  Went to my first Yankee game... Went back to Wilmington for the first time in four years... Bought a section of seats from 3 Rivers Stadium... Same car, no new tattoos or turtles, still fat, still bald.

(12.01.05) I picked up this mixer at a thrift store this week.   Friggin awesome, yo!  Twelve speeds, everything from shortbreads to made from scratch cakes!  I figured it wasn't brand new, but did a little research and found out it was made in 1971.  I bet this baby has some knowledge I must extract.  My mixer is Yoda.

(11.30.05) Seriously, can you buy a better beer than Yuengling for $5 a six pack?  The stuff is delicious- and not just in my typical "I'm from Pennsylvania so I adhere to a certain moral code" way... the stuff is fantastic.  Pens recalled Marc-Andre Fleury from the WBS Baby Pens of the AHL... figures, as they play at Scope this Friday & Saturday nights vs. the Admirals.  He lost a 3-2 decision tonight with the big club, but played very well.  Man, the AHL rules.  If they only sold Yuengling at Admirals games.

(09.28.05) The response to my poll has been highly in favor of telling MTV to bite my ass.  Doing just that seems like the plan.   The Steelers lost a disappointing game to the Patsies on Sunday.  Sixteen straight regular-season wins ain't too bad though.  We're going into a bye week, so I expect to sleep a little this weekend.  The Pens rolled at home agianst Columbus, 7-2, in one of their final preseason games.  Mario Lemieux had a goal and 3 assists.   I got my tix for the Oct. 7 game in Raleigh.  I'll get to see Sid the Kid play in an official NHL game before anybody in Pittsburgh!

(09.18.05) I've received a couple of emails from a producer for Meet the Barkers, the MTV reality show with Travis Barker, the drummer for Blink 182/The Transplants/Box Car Racer... they want my permission to use footage they shot of an interview I did with Travis & some other schmuck in his band.   I'm inclined to not let them use it, but haven't decided just yet.  I'm putting a poll on the main page- please help me decide.  The Steelers were damn impressive (8 sacks) against Houston on Sunday.  Baltimore sucks- they lost this week, as did the Patriots (Carolina handed Tom Brady his own ass) so life is good.  NHL tickets went on sale on Saturday.  I ordered tix for the Canes/Pens first meeting in October.  Sidney Crosby!!!!!!!!!  Also, you'll find a new featured link, where I provide unbiased ratings of local Chinese buffets.

(09.12.05) I had the honor of being the best man as my buddy Studd got hitched this weekend.  'Twas a fine affair.  The magistrate was an hour and a half late, but nobody seemed to mind.  Love was in the air, yo!  The bride arrived in a large truck, looking beautiful.  The groom bathed too.  I enjoyed introducing Laura to her first real Western Pennsylvania wedding.  Studd's brother and aunt admired the "pool of grease" that had settled around the sausages on the buffet.  We all couldn't wait to dive in with a hunk of bread.  One of the better wedding's this old goat has seen!

(09.04.05) Coming soon: a report from Studd's wedding!
My buddy's Studd is marrying Heather on September 10th.  I'll be the best man at an intimate ceremony in the old country.  So, I'm gonna be in Pa. all this week... Bucco game vs. Arizona this Wed. night too...

(09.03.05) I've included some links at right.... You can use your credit card or paypal account to make a donation to the United Way.  If you are the itemizing type, you can get a receipt for your donation as well.  If you want to send non-cash donations, there is a list of items the Star of Hope mission needs.  They're assisting the people who have been displaced to the Astrodome in Houston.  Please give what you can- and a tip---those flat rate priority boxes that the post office provides for free...can be crammed with stuff and mailed for $7.70 regardless of weight.

(08.28.05) Steelers vs Redskins
Preseason game #3 in Landover, Md.  Skins won.   Nobody cares though.  We talked about making a sign that says Your mascot offends me, but didn't.  Maybe next year.

(08.10.05) Vans Warped Tour 2005- Yesterday was the big show at the VWVBA.  Crappy weather, good music.  I apparently pissed off the white guy-rapper, "the other guy" from Transplants (the guy who isn't Tim or Travis) and he kicked me off their bus in mid-interview.  I'll try and get some audio up soon.  Should be pretty funny.

(08.01.05) Jeez, it's been that long since a formal update?  I'm still paying $12 a month to my server, so I guess I may as well utilize, and soforth.  Things were mostly crappy from 01.17 until recently anyway.   The Steelers lost to New England.  The NHL locked out.  I turned 30, and my radio career was at a crossroads/standstill.  Oh well.  Training camp is around the corner.  The NHL looks to become healthier than ever, and the Pens drafted Sidney Crosby.  I'm still 30, and that still sucks, but it's not exactly "cheap booze and life reflection" depressing either- anymore at least.  I started doing some freelance writing for the Virginian-Pilot.  I'm contributing some local (Va Beach) sports for the twice-weekly publication (the Beacon).  So far it's been pretty cool.  I spent several months thinking about how 95% of the world's jobs would cause me to put a gun in my mouth within one year.  For that reason, I've been really lucky to have worked in radio for as long as I have.  I do truly love working in radio.   I always appreciated what I have, but having a not-so-enjoyable primary gig for a few months reinforced my beliefs.  In addition to working at The X, and writing for the Pilot, I've also started an eBay business.  I've been on eBay for about 5 years, and I've done some buying and selling in big chunks.  Now I went as far as to get a business license- I'm a tax-paying, legit business.  I deal mostly in concert tees, music and sports collectibles, but I'll sell anything I'm knowledgable about and can make a profit on.  Here's a link to my site on eBay.  So, all in all, things don't suck so much anymore.  I don't have one normal job; I have three abnormal jobs.   That's probably what I'm best suited for.  The important thing is that I'm able to wear t-shirts everyday, and don't shave often.  Isn't that what we're all looking for?

(01.17.05) The Steelers got a helluva scare from the Jets on Saturday, but are advancing to the AFC Championship game this Sunday, at Heinz Field against the Patriots.  Winner faces either Philly or Atlanta in Super Bowl XXXIX.  I've predicted an all-Pennsylvania Super Bowl for five consecutive years, so hopefully this will be the year! What's new: "An Honest Mistake" by The Bravery was a surprise upset over Goldfinger's "Wasted" in Battle-X competition.  "Wasted" had been the reigning champ since throughout 2005.   Stats on the Battle-X are below, as always.
(01.12.05) This Saturday at 4:30pm, the Steelers take on the New York Jets in the next step in our quest for Super Bowl XXXIX.   I've decided to only wear Steeler jerseys from here on out.  Monday was the vintage Greg Lloyd #95.  Yesterday was Tommy Maddox's #8 (I only just started wearing this jersey because I have a superstition against jinxing the starting QB by wearing his jersey).  I think today will be the old-school Franco Harris 1975 throwback.   The Dan Kreider #35 is my game day jersey (13 game winning streak with that one).   Luckily I have a dozen Steeler jerseys, so I probably won't stink anytime soon.   Kordell, Chad Brown, Erric Pegram, Dermontti Dawson and others remain in the bullpen.  What's new: Goldfinger remains the Battle-X champion.  Check out the downloads section, as I've got the new video from The Used.

(01.04.05) Wow, I just checked my site stats and realized I had 566 unique hits during the month of December!  That's easily the most I've ever had.  If somebody would drop a note in my guestbook once in a while, I wouldn't have to check my site stats for my daily affirmation.  The Battle-X is back underway.  The feature took the holidays off, because I got lazy, but moreso because record labels tend to not send out any new music during the month of December.   We're back underway now, though, and Goldfinger is the first new champ of the year 2005.  Please make an effort to listen weeknights at 8 and cast your vote.  Your listenership keeps me employed.  Looks like the Penguins screwed me.  After the fiasco where I had 2,500 people cast a vote for a picture that turned out not to be mine, they never put my pic up for votes.  Oh well, I take solice in the fact that the franchise is losing millions of dollars.  At least that's what the official books say.

(01.01.05) Happy New Year!  The Steelers have a meaningless game in Buffalo tomorrow afternoon.  I hope we can squeak out a victory to secure the best regular season record in team history (15-1) but if not, just keep everybody healthy.   Big Ben's not expected to start, nor is The Bus...  Rumor is, my friend EJ just got a bigass flat screen TV, so it'll be fun watchin' anyway.  We just announced 96X's Concert Series event #1, and I couldn't be more fired up that it's Social Distortion!  February 28, at The Norva!  Tickets are on sale 1/7!  Hope you have a safe, happy remainder of the holiday season.

(12.08.04) Angie Hall of Virginia Beach sent me a good pic for the tattoo gallery.  Not bad... I put up a link yesterday, asking people to send tat pics and already got one!   I'm starting to think people actually look at my site!  Sent me your best tat pic here!  I'm gonna start a picture board for listeners too, so feel free to send me a pic of yourself.  Stupid, sexy or otherwise.  If you're going the sexy route, though, you damn well better be 18.  Check your ID if you're not sure.  I'm actually quite proud of this site now.  You should've seen it a couple of years ago... Total crap.  Now, less crappy.   Definitely a move in the right direction.  Last night, I checked out a local media site, VARTV.com, and saw that they'd given me some ink! Sure, they were incorrect about the name of my former station and company, but I take what I can get.  On an unrelated note, if you haven't been by the eightonefour website lately, it's worth a gander.  Dan Rugh is one of the world's most talented people.  I'm amazed at all the things he has his hands in: web design, art, band promotion, music.  There are video games and more stuff than this guy could ever dream of putting together.  Great nostalgia for a displaced western Pennsylvanian!  Check it out at www.x814x.com!

I'm easily the stupidest person you know.  I spent three hours on Tuesday morning bugging friends, relatives and strangers to go to the Pittsburgh Penguins website and vote for me in a photo contest to win a DVD recorder, or season tickets.  I made a mistake, and remember, I'm easily the stupidest person you know.  It turns out I was asking everybody to vote for a different picture.  My picture was titled "Holiday Wish."  The pic I had everybody voting for was titled "Christmas Wish."  In three hours, I got over 2,000 people to vote for the wrong picture, thus virtually guaranteeing a total stranger the grand prize for the week.   My picture wasn't even one of the options for this week.  I imagine my pic will be up for votes next week, and I'll explain my stupidity and ask everybody to vote again.  I appreciate the effort thus far, but "Christmas Wish" appreciates it even more.  Possibly the worst part is, that "Christmas Wish" sucks really bad, and never would've gotten 2,000 votes.  As I mentioned, I'm easily the stupidest person you know.

Tonight 96X brought legendary alt-rockers The Pixies to the Ted Constant Convocation Center at ODU.  What a night!  There are a few pics here.

12.05.04

The other day, I got an email asking if I'd seen the holiday classic It's A Wonderful Life, which had apparently been on TV the previous night.

I've honestly never seen It's A Wonderful Life.
I just never happened to see it growing up, and spending five years in Indiana Pa led to my boycott
of all-things-Jimmy Stewart.  I must have never let you in on this rant before.   I go on it about this time every year.  Indiana Pa is the birthplace of James Stewart. Nothing else has ever come out of Indiana, with the exception of a buttload of Christmas trees.  EVERYTHING in Indiana Pa is named after Jimmy Stewart.   There's the Jimmy Stewart airport, Jimmy Stewart Blvd, The Jimmy Stewart Museum... there are plaques around town in the most random places commemorating everything Mr. Stewart ever touched.  There's a plaque on the corner where his father owned a hardware store (the building
hasn't been there for generations).  There's a plaque where his favorite malt shop used to be... a plaque to commemorate the first time he got to second base with a girl... you get the picture.  Every December, the townies go all goo-goo Jimmy Stewart ga-ga.   They recreate scenes from Mr. Smith Goes to Washington in plywood, and Wonderful Life, in Christmas lights.   They praise his name from the rooftops and pray to him like some kind of prehistoric fertility god.  The one thing that Indiana doesn't seem to have is any record of Jimmy Stewart setting foot in their fair town, post-1950. Short of making a pilgrimage to do charcoal rubbings of all the plaques, why would he?   There were parades in his honor (which ended on Jimmy Stewart Blvd of course) which he never attended.  The Jimmy Stewart Museum is full of black and white pics of Jimmy in Indiana, but no color ones...
For the first three and a half years I spent in Indiana, I grew bitter and resentful of Jimmy Stewart, and cursed the town and yokels within it, for
not being able to produce anything to top Jimmy Stewart, or something similar but more gracious.  During IUP year number four, I drove a couple hours to Punxatawney, IUP's branch campus.  Greeting me was a 50 ft tall Punxatawney Phil groundhog statue.
I was in Punxy for exactly 18 minutes and drove past the Punxy Phil Car Wash, The Punxy Phil Preschool, the Punxy Phil-Er-Up Gas Station, and the Punxy Phil Courthouse, where they wake the rodent every February and ask him to sign death warrants.  On the way out of this budding metropolis, I was serenaded by the Punxy Philharmonic and realized I'd gone to the right campus, where they at least worship a human.

So no, I didn't see It's a Wonderful Life.

Groundhog Day, on the other hand, is a great movie.  Don't Drive Angry!

I have updated some of the downloads, with an mp3 of the Lazyboy comedy tune that everybody's asking about, and some video.  Also, there's a new guestbook.   The one I was using just sucked and this one sucks a little less, but the important thing is that it's free, so I can deal with a certain degree of suck.  Some of the photo archives from Wilmington and beyond have been updated as well.  I realized somewhere along the way that I really don't know what I'm doing with web design.  I really just feel my way through things... does it show?  I know there are much more efficient ways to do things, but I'm a stubborn Irish Catholic kid, so I does stuff my way.

Lazyboy "Underwear Goes Inside The Pants."
You can download an mp3 here.

Okay, well the latest this time is that I've been the night jock at 96X for about three months now.  Things have been very cool.   The X does a lot of really cool shows at the Norva.  We just finished up #9 in our concert series, with The Hives.  Those wacky Sweeds really know how to tear it up and entertain a crowd.  I'll add them to the list of great things Sweeden has given us... the bikini team, Ulf Samuelsson, the Swedish Chef, and now The Hives.  Looking forward to Concert #10, which will be the legendary Pixies, on the ODU campus, at the Ted Constant Convocation Center, this coming Monday.  I'm doing my show live from the venue, and looking forward to a stellar performance.  I've done a ton of updating with this here site, and I'm about 85% happy with the way things look.  I'm using a new guest book, as the crappy old geocities one I'd been getting by was, well, crappy.   This one sucks less.  The Steelers are 10-1 and have the Jags coming up this Sunday night (ESPN 8pm).  They've looked shaky the last couple of weeks in wins over Washington and Cleveland, but we're getting Duce and Plax back this week (supposedly) so that should help straighten things out.  The Patsies continue their two-season-long tear, and are also at 10-1, so getting home field advantage going into the playoffs will be no small feat.  I do not want to see the Steelers travel to Foxboro.  Hmm, looking at the post below, I've just reminded myself to back this site up, so I don't screw myself again.  Happy Shopping Season.

9.29.04

Okay, well the latest is that I've packed up and switched homes, states and stations again.  In July 2004 I quit my job at Surf and headed to Norfolk, jobless.  I got a ton of great memories in Wilmington- some of the coolest people in the world are there.  There was a lot going on with the station at the time.   They've since changed ownership, morning shows and frequencies, along with a ton of personnel changes.  I'd planned to move to Virginia anyway, but knowing life as I knew it was about to end anyway- well, it mad the decision easier.  I've since landed at WROX 96.1, a station I've admired and wanted to work for, since I lived on  the Outer Banks in 1998.  I'm doing whatever they'll let me do and things have been pretty cool so far.  There are some amazingly talented people at 96X.  I'm just now getting things straightened out on the site, with all the updated artwork etc.   My computer crashed a couple of months back, and I of course didn't have anything backed up.  That's just the way I operate.  I'm an idiot.  Thanks for dropping by.

Yeah, I save clippings of myself.  I'm a dork.
